Zero
 |
The hero of this story, Zero was a hero from the Maverick and Elf wars. He fought alongside X for years, but for reasons unkown, ended up sealing himself in an underground lab. He was forgotten there for a hundred of years, until he was reawakened by a young scientist named Ciel. Somehow, in the one hundred years while Zero was out, the worled changed considerably. Healed by cyber elf Passy, Zero had completely lost his memories of the past. As soon as he woke up, the only thing he could do was to protect the girl who awakened her from the weird robots that attacked them, which bore an uncanny likeness to a person from his past. Without any memories, Zero stayed with Ciel and the resistance doing various missions for them until he learned the leader of Neo Arcadia, the opressing force bent on destroying every reploid in the world, was X, his former friends. Bits of his memory started to come back, and he decided to meet X face to face, only to learn it was just a copy of the original. After facing Neo Arcadia's Four Generals, Zero finally met the copy and took care of him, Zero escapes into the desert with an army of Neo Arcadian Pantheons in tow. There, he fought against the ndless Pantheon swarm for a whole year, until his battered body couldn't take it anymore. Left to die in the sands, he was recovered by Harpuia and brought back to the resistance base where he was nursed back to health. He's been an important member of the resistance ever since, hoping to bring justice to the world once and for all.

Ciel
|
Ciel is the leader of the resistance. She once was a human scientist working for Neo Arcadia, but left when she was disgusted by Copy X's tyranical rule. In truth, she was the one who created Copy X when the real X went missing. She feels responsible for making Neo Arcadia what it is now, and is working hard to make the world a better place. Her main concern right now is to create a new energy source.
Her name means "sky" in french. It should be pronounced "see-el". |
Elpizo
|
| Elpizo is a former Neo Arcadia officer who was labelled a Maverick and fled with his troops to form a resistance movement. He eventually allied himself with Ciel and the two resistances merged their forces. Ciel stepped down from her commander role and let him be in charge. He lost most of his troops on an all out assault on Neo Arcadia and became mad, seeking the power of the Dark Elf to destroy Neo Arcadia once and for all. He was finally terminated by Zero. He found peace in death, however, and now his soul exists as a Cyber Elf. |
Cerveau
|
Cerveau is the main engineer of the resistance. He does most of the reploid maintenance, and is responsible for creating many of the weapons Zero uses. He's also responsible for fixing Zero's body when he was brought back to the resistance.
His name means "brain" in french. It should be pronounced as "servo". |
Alouette
|
Alouette is a child reploid who was saved by Ciel when she escaped Neo Arcadia. She sees Ciel as a mother figure and the whole resistance as her family.
Her name means "lark" in french. |
Andrew
|
Andrew is an old reploid who did various jobs while he was living in Neo Arcadia. There, he fell in love with a human woman and the two ended up together. As his wife aged, he cursed his ageless reploid appearance and asked Ciel to rebuild him as an old man so he could be closer to his wife. She eventually passed away, so Andrew decided to stick with Ciel waiting for the day he'll be reunited with his wife once more. Now a member of the resistance, he just loves to ramble about his youth.
Andrew's name is a homage to a robot in a short story by Isaac Asimov, made into a movie called Bicentennial Man. |
Donde
|
Donde is a security guard at the resistance base. He ended up getting an arm injury doing his job.
Oddly, Donde is nowhere to be seen in MMZ3. However, a bunch of soldiers looking exactly like him appear in one of the cut scenes...
I'm not sure what his name is supposed to mean. It might be a mistranslation from "dinde" which means turkey in french. |
Hibou
|
Hibou used to be a slacker who did nothing for the resistance but eat energy crystals all day. After the base was overrun and the resistance had to relocate, he realized everybody was needed, and started to work extra hard to make amends.
His name means "owl" in french. It should be pronounced "e-boo" |
Milan
|
Milan was just a reploid soldier who met his unfortunate demise while protecting Ciel during their raid on the old laboratory where Zero was sleeping. He was shot to death while trying to fend off the swarm of pantheon which were afte them. However, thanks to his sacrifice, he bought enough time for Ciel to reactivate Zero.
Some people speculate Zero's Buster Shot was Milan's gun... I'd need a proof of this. |
Passy
|
| Passy was Ciel's Cyber Elf friend who, just like Milan, met her end so Zero could live once more. As a Cyber Elf, she fused with Zero's body, healing and awakening him from his 100 years sleep. |
Rouge
|
Rouge is one of the two operators working for the resistance. She joined up with Jaune during the year Zero was gone. She was part of the mission to Aera Zero. She doesn't show many emotions, but deep down, she really cares about Zero and Ciel.
Her name means "red" in french. It should be pronounced "rooj". |
Jaune
|
Jaune is the other operator of the resistance. Just like Rouge, she joined during Zero's absence...
Her name means "yellow" in french. It should be pronounced "jown".
Am I the only one who would love to see Rouge and Jaune as a shoujo ai pairing? ^^ |
Doigt
|
Doight is another reploid engineer. He's Cerveau's right hand man.
His name means "finger" in french. It should be pronounced "dwah". |
Rocinolle
|
Rocinolle is the hard working nurse of the resistance. She's a mother figure among the soldiers.
Her official american name is a mistranslation. It should be Rossignol, which means "nightingale" in french. Quite fitting of her nursing nature. |
Pic
|
Pic is a tall resistance soldier who spends most of his time taking it easy in the warehouse.
His name means "woodpecker" in french. It is pronounced just like "pick". |
Hirondelle
|
Hirondelle is a resistance soldier who likes to give people advice. He's usually on watch duty. His main purpose seem to be intelligence gathering, this is why he tags along with Ciel when she investigated Area Zero.
His name means Swallow in french. It should be pronounced as "e-rondel". |
Menart
|
Menart is another resistance soldier who usually hangs around the hangar at the ground level of the base.
I honestly have no idea what his name is supposed to mean. Oh well... |
Perroquiet
|
Perroquiet is Ciel's assistant, and takes care of the file archives when he's not needed in the lab. He's quite shy, but feels comfortable to talk to Zero anyway.
His american name is a mistranslation. It should be "Perroquet", which means "parrot" in english. |
Autruche
|
Another resistance soldier. Dang, I don't know what to say about him...
His name means "ostrich" in french. It is pronouced as o-troosh. |
Resistance Soldier / Colbor
|
These guys are the bulk of the resistance force. One of these soldiers is called Colbor and was rescued by Zero when he was ambushed by Harpuia. Colbor and his team was the one in charge of the operations when the resistance helped the people evacuating Neo-Arcadia before Weil destroyed it with Ragnarok.
Colbor's name is a horrible mistranslation of what should have been "Corbeau", meaning Raven in french. Fits much more with the bird theme. |
Resistance Soldier (female)

There was also a lot of female resistance members in the original base. What happened to these girls?
One of these soldiers can be made to appear in MMZ3 using an e-reader card in japan. I have no idea why she's hidden. She happens to have a name, like Colbor and Faucon. Anybody knows it? |
Resistance Soldier (guard) / Faucon

A bigger version of the normal soldiers, those guys are usually stationned as guards around the base. The one travelling with Ciel in MMZ4 is called Faucon.
I think Faucon has probably been around since the first MMZ. Maybe they decided to make him into a generic soldier after his name was established. Faucon means Falcon in french, by the way. |
Elpizo's Resistance Soldier

| These are the soldiers that were part of Elpizo's army. Most of them were killed during operation Righteous Strike. Those who survived stayed faithful to Ciel after Elpizo went mad, but mysteriously left the resistance after his death. Their whereabouts are currently unknown. |
Elpizo's Officer

This guy was one of Elpizo's officers. He was killed during operation Righteous Strike.
Elpizo also had another officer looking just like this one, but with black hair, however, his portrait never appears in game as Zero never has the chance to talk to him. I know these two actually had names, but I don't know them. Can anybody help? |
Neige
|
Neige, once a journalist in Neo Arcadia, is now the leader of a group of human fugitives who made a small settlement in Area Zero hoping to escape Weil's regime. Like the other settlers, she hates the mysterious reploid who defeated their beloved leader, Copy X. She doesn't realize Zero is that very same reploid.
It's quite refreshing to see humans in a Mega Man X/Zero title! :)

Tornade is a young man who has a deep mistrust in reploids. He thinks society would be best without them, and doesn't like Zero. However, he apologizes when he realizes Zero fights for the right cause.

| The ruthless ruler of Neo Arcadia, Copy X was created by Ciel when the original X went missing. After spending most of his time branding reploids as traitors and retiring them for the greater good of mankind, he was terminated by Zero, at Ciel's request. He was everything X was, but lacked experience and compassion. He was later resurrected at the hands of Dr. Weil, but he was even more flawed this time. Zero once again made short work out of him. |
Harpuia
|
| One of the Four Generals. Represents the air elemental. Among the generals, Harpuia is the most level headed. He sees Zero as a rival, but would not fall to dishonorable tactics. After Copy X's death, he becomes the leader of Neo Arcadia, but loses his position after Dr. Weil takes over. |
Leviathan
|
| One of the Four Generals, Leviathan represents the water elemental. After her initial meeting with Zero, she becomes obsessed with him, and defeating him in combat becomes her driving force. |
Fefnir
|
| One of the Four Generals. Fefnir represents the fire elemental. Hot headed and impetuous, Fefnir is a violent maniac, and takes extreme pleasure from battle and destruction. He's obsessed with defeating Zero. |
Phantom
|
| Phantom is the last of the Four Generals. He was a master of stealth and assassination, but blew himself up trying to prevent Zero from reaching his master, Copy X. His sacrifice was in vain, as Zero managed to escape the blast. Lately, it seems Phantom's consciousness reappeared somewhere in cyber space. |
Dr. Weil

| Weil was once a respected scientist in Neo Arcadia, but went insane from power and became responsible for the elf wars. He turned the Mother Elf into her twister, darker version, hoping to use the resulting powers for himself. He was banished to space in the end. That was 100 years ago. Now, Weil, as a cyborg, is back with a vengeage. With the help of Omega and a new Copy X he made, he takes over Neo Arcadia once more and spreads his reign of terror over the earth. |
Omega
|
| Omega was Weil's creation, the most powerful reploid ever made. Alone, at the whim of his master, he ravaged the world during the Elf Wars. He was banished to space along with Weil. He crashed back on earth 100 years later and helped Weil take over Neo Arcadia. It turned out Omega was really Zero's original body controlled by Weil. After a long battle, Zero destroyed him, proving everyone no matter what body he had, Zero would always be Zero. |
Craft
|
Craft is the leader of the Einherjar, Weil's elite strike unit. He was once an elite soldier reploid in Neo Arcadia, and decided to fight for Weil when he realized he could bring back the peace that Zero shattered when he defeated Copy X. Craft thinks his cause is just, even if it means wiping out every living thing outside of the Neo Arcadian walls. He's sort of in love with Neige, and wishes she would return to Neo Arcadia.

Aztec Falcon
|
A neo arcadian reploid part of Harpuia's unit. He trapped a few resistance soldiers in a waste disposal compactor, but was defeated by Zero.
It's not certain if Aztec Falcon still lives. One thing's for sure, Harpuia either rides him or his twin brother around in MMZ2. However, the Aztec Falcon Harpuia rides has four legs, looking like some kind of griffon. The original one only had two. |
Maha Ganeshariff

| A rotund Neo-Arcadian reploid sent to the lab where Zero was found sleeping to recover data. Reaching the place before Zero, he assimilated the data into his body, but Zero defeated him and got what he was looking for. He was repaired later and faced Zero again in Neo Arcadia, but was defeated for good this time. |
Anubis Necromancess (III/V)
|
Anubis Necromancess III is an eerie reploid with the ability to manipulate destroyed pantheons. He ambushed Zero in the desert while he was trying to rescue fellow resistance members from a shuttle crash. He was defeated, but came back once more to face Zero in Neo Arcadia, only to be defeated again. When we thought we had seen the last of him, Dr. Weil rebuilt him as Anubis Necromancess V when he took over Neo Arcadia. Zero once again had to defeat his old enemy.

Blizzack Stagroff

| A frost reploid being part of Leviathan's unit, he was stationed at the secret base under the desert. He tried to stop Zero and the resistance hostages from escaping, but was defeated. Just like Anubis, he came back to defend Neo Arcadia, and fell again, only to be ressurected by Weil one year later. Once again, Zero terminated him. |
Hanumachine
|
| An important member of Phantom's unit, Hanimachine managed to break into the original resistance base with a few pantheons, but was no match for Zero. He was also resurected by Dr. Weil one year later, only to be defeated again by Zero. |
Centi Ashuram
|
A quiet and efficient Neo Arcadian reploid who tried to stop Zero from progressing into Neo Arcadia.
Sometimes, I wonder if Centi Ashuram is an important reploid or just some kind of mechaniloid midboss.. He doesn't speak, so he doesn't have a face, but he has a lifebar. His name also fits the naming pattern of the others bosses. Who knows? |
Herculious Anchortus

Herculious Anchortus was another Neo Arcadian soldier who met his end trying to stop Zero from breaking into Neo Arcadia. He was somehow resurrected one year later to fight against Zero alongside his brother, Kuwagust Anchus.
Something must have happened in the translation, because the two beetle brothers do not share the same last name, although they do sound quite similar. |
Hyleg Ourobockle

| Hylegg was sent by Neo Arcadia to recover the Baby Elf sealed in the forest of Dysis. He attacked the resistance soldier that was originally sent for the mission, but Zero saved the day, putting an end to Hylegg Ouborockle's existance. He was later brought back to life with the powers of the dark elf to protect Elpizo, but was defeated by Zero once more. |
Polar Kamrous

Another member of Leviathan's unit, Polar Kamrous was in charge of Neo Arcadia's polar base. He was defeated by Zero as he broke into the base. He was later brought back to life with the powers of the dark elf to protect Elpizo, but was defeated by Zero once more.
The american instruction manual refers to Polar Kamrous as a female. However, I take this information with a grain of salt since Capcom US booklets are rush jobs written by people who do not appear to know anything about the game. |
Phoenix Magnion

Phoenix Magnion was the reploid in charge of a Neo Arcadian power plant. He was defeated by Zero while trying to stop him from destroying the place. He was later brought back to life with the powers of the dark elf to protect Elpizo, but was defeated by Zero once more.
Many people like this guy because a bunch of Mega Man X characters appear in one of his attacks. The characters are Vile, Colonel, Bit and Agile. |
Panther Flauclaws

| Panther Flauclaws was a soldier from Harpuia's unit. He was assigned to protect a freight train from attacks, but was defeated by Zero. He was later brought back to life with the powers of the dark elf to protect Elpizo, but was defeated by Zero once more. |
Kuwagust Anchus

Kuwagust Anchus was in charge of the bombing raid over the new resistance base, but was stopped at the last minute by the combined efforts of Ciel and Zero. Out of revenge for his fallen brother, Herculious, he fought with Zero on top of a shuttle. The Dark Elf brought him back along with his brother to stop Zero from reaching Elpizo. Both fell once again under his blade.
Like I said before, the two beetle brothers do not share the same surname. Lazy translators... |
Burble Hekelot

| Geroro! Burble Hekelot was guarding the forest of Notus, and got overzealous when Zero passed through it on pursuit of Elpizo. He was quickly defeated, but Elpizo could escape. He was also resurrected by the dark elf to protect Elpizo later. Zero killed him again. See the pattern? :) |

Deathanz Mantisk

| Second in command of the Weil Numbers, Deathanz is a deadly assassin. He hid in the old residential area waiting to ambush Zero, but was defeated in the end. |
Cubit Foxtar

One of the Weil Numbers. Cubit Foxtar tried to destroy Zero while he was investigating a deserted Neo Arcadian energy plant. She was defeated.
It seems Cubit Foxter is, against all evidences, male, at least, according to an arcane translation of some obscure japanese book. However, I'm not buying it until I see a concrete proof. Like the fricking book in front of me and a Capcom employee who speaks both english and japanese to tell me WTF is going on. Don't mail me about this. |
Glacier Le Cactank

One of the Weil Numbers. Glacier Le Cactank tried to stop the resistance from recovering containers found in a crash site in the northern snowy plains. Zero assisted the resistance and defeated Glacier.

Pantheon Guards

The bulk of the Neo Arcadian forces, the Pantheons come in various shapes. They all appear to be based on X's body, but they are nothing more than mindless drones programmed for war.
I love these guys, they all look like X with a funky robot head. The Rainbow Devil, a boss fought in both MMZ and MMZ2 appears to be a very advanced (and quite odd) version of a Pantheon. |
Variant Guards

Since the older Pantheons were based on X's model, Weil decided to change the look of the Neo Arcadian infantry to reflect the new government. The result were these guys. The Variants come in various types, just like the Pantheons. Aside from the looks, they behave rather similarly.
People say they are based on Vile's look. Aside from the purple, I don't think they look like Vile at all. |

| The founder of Neo Arcadia and Zero's partner during the Maverick Wars and the Elf wars. X ended up vanishing from Neo Arcadia one day. In truth, he used his body to seal the Dark Elf in the deepest reaches of Neo Arcadia. He existed as a cyber elf since then. He was watching when Zero was awakened, and returned the Z-Saber that was entrusted to him 100 years ago back to its rightful owner. His body was finally destroyed by Elpizo as he let the Dark Elf free. Eventually, his Cyber Elf soul found rest and he vanished for good. Will we hear again from him? |
Crea

| One of the two Baby Elves that caused chaos after being in contact with the Dark Elf. This one was being studied by Ciel before Elpizo released it. Was eventually defeated by Zero. |
Prea

| The other Baby Elf. This one was recovered by Zero in the forest of Dysis. Elpizo released it when he went mad. Zero eventually terminated it as well. |
Dark Elf / Mother Elf

| Not much is known about the Mother elf, aside from the fact she was the one used to put an end to the Maverick Wars one hundred years ago. Somehow, she was manipulated against her will by Dr. Weil and turned into the Dark Elf. Her power as a cyber elf appears to be immesureable. After being freed from Elpizo, she ran away, only to reappear when Weil took over Neo Arcadia. In the end, she broke free of her curse and escaped once more. Her whereabouts are currently unknown, but her Dark Elf side is no more. |
Original Zero

| At some point during the elf wars, before Weil was originally expelled from Neo Arcadia, he managed to get his hands on Zero and transferred his mind to a new body. The original body of Zero, now an empty shell, was used to create Omega, Weil's ultimate weapon. This is the last form Omega took while fighting against Zero. Seems like the original body was no match for the original soul. |
